A BEAUTIFUL JUXTAPOSITION

The purpose behind the Crown Point Estate Selection is to share a reflection of our vineyard in your glass. A blend of all five Bordeaux varieties planted on our estate property, the wine captures the nuances from our best parcels. While Cabernet Sauvignon is the core of the Estate Selection, the Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot provide complexity while highlighting specific aspects of the vintage and site.

We have learned that Crown Point is a place where each varietal excels from a quality standpoint. This allows us to take a gentle approach at the winery with an extended maceration and fermentation that maintains the trademark personality of the site, finesse in harmony with intensity – a beautiful juxtaposition. The warm 2017 vintage emphasizes the true greatness of our site: despite the heat, the wine kept a striking freshness, complexity, and personality.

IN OUR OWN WORDS

“Aged for twenty-six months in French Oak barrels, seventy percent new, unfined and unfiltered, this wine is exceptional now and can be cellared or enjoyed now with confidence. Delightfully lush, sweet and fine grain tannins, everything you can dream about when tasting Crown Point.”

— Simon Faury, Winemaker

“The character of this wine comes from the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown at various elevations on the estate. By selecting the best clones from France and California, the fruit gives us exquisite acidity with an impeccable balance.”

– Roger K. Bower, Proprietor

Crown Point’s Wet Winter Could Lead To An Exceptional 2023 Vintage

The impact of winter rainstorms on vineyards in California is a positive natural occurrence, and Crown Point especially welcomes it. On the estate, we are fortunate to have well-draining rocky soils and abundant natural quality cover crops, which prevent erosion. As a result of the much-needed rainfall, we welcomed the start of budbreak in late March 2023 with vigorous and wet soils.

I always say the best blends usually find you – the superior blend is the one that is obvious and is unanimously enjoyed by all. Until you discover it, you must keep tasting different combinations.
