In April 2020, Crown Point Vineyards brewed its first batch of compost tea. In short, compost tea is an organic product that enhances the soil’s microorganisms to promote soil health, improve root systems, and provide a catalyst for efficient uptake of the soil elements by the root. Over the long term, the brewed tea cleans the soil, promotes soil health, reinforces plant architecture, improves yields, and ultimately enhances the quality of the grapes.
Once veraison begins, we can count the remaining days until we pick the fruit – we know the Cabernet Sauvignon is roughly 55 days out, and the Sauvignon Blanc is 35 days out. It is uncanny how punctual mother nature can be.

Crown Point wines highlight the Mediterranean attributes of our site – incredible freshness, spice, tones of cassis, and fine grain tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon is the signature variety on our estate accounting for 75% of our plantings as this is where the tension and density derive from in our wines. Therefore, you can pair intensely flavored, aged, firm, and nutty cheeses with our Estate Selection and Cabernet Sauvignon. We believe the fat content in the cheese harmonizes with the tannins creating an elegant balance.
The purpose behind the Crown Point Estate Selection is to share a reflection of our vineyard in your glass. A blend of all five Bordeaux varieties planted on our estate property, the wine captures the nuances from our best parcels.
Juve Buenrostro, the Vineyard Manager at Crown Point, knows the estate intimately. He has over 20 years of experience in the vineyard and throughout the Happy Canyon AVA of Santa Barbara. He lives on-site with his family and walks the vineyard daily—Juve’s uncompromising attention to detail and dedication to the property is exhibited in every block.
Originally built as a horse barn in 1999 with a collective car garage, the winery building has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility, purposefully designed to accommodate the demands of the vineyard and the high standard to which the wines from Crown Point are held. “Since the beginning I knew we would become a pioneer of this growing region called Happy Canyon” says Proprietor, Roger Bower.
